“Plant the seed of meditation and reap the fruit of peace of mind.
Remez Sasson

I have been involved in expressive movement for as long as I can remember. From ballet classes as a child, I moved through Jazz dance, aerobics, Pilates, Latin American dance, Capoeira (teaching and performing) and finally the discovery of Yoga. I still remember that first Down Dog…what a strange position but so invigorating !!

As with many people who start on the yoga path, I found a practice that not only satisfied me on a physical level but created some mental peace from the activity of living in London and running a busy catering business

My discovery of Yoga coincided with a new found freedom that allowed me to realise that only I was responsible for how I lived my life and that I did have choices. I packed my bags and left for Australia to focus on myself and to indulge in a daily practice of Mysore Astanga.
When I returned back home I continued to work in catering on a freelance basis and set up body conditioning classes with a strong influence from my practice of yoga.  I decided it was time to explore a little deeper and signed up for The Yoga Academy’s Teacher Training run by Simon Low who had been one of my main teachers from the beginning. What I discovered was that I knew a lot about how my body worked on a physical level but not very much about what was going on inside on a mental, emotional and spiritual level. So my Self-Inquiry started.

After completing my teacher training I went to Thailand to complete a Thai yoga massage training for the purpose of improving my  adjustment skills. This course was taught by Asokananda, the most renowned western teacher in this field. This course not only gave me an incredible tool but also a profound experience during meditation that propelled me into a daily meditation practice and a deeper insight into our true nature.

This course inspired me to live in Thailand for several years where I taught Yoga and Thai Massage in Chiang Mai. During this time I spent 3 months in Byron Bay, Australia, completing the advanced Yoga Alliance Teacher Training with Yoga Arts. I am currently living and working in Balham, South London where I teach workshops and classes on Yoga, Nutrition, Weightloss and Healthy Cooking.

I am a registered British Wheel of Yoga instructor, Yoga Alliance 500 hours accredited and a Birthlight Pregnancy Yoga Instructor.

Teaching Philosophy

In my teachings, I share with you what I have learnt from numerous workshops and trainings with excellent yoga teachers including Simon Low, Louisa Sears, Clive Sheridan, Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste and more recently Glenn Ceresoli and Doug Keller and Self enquiry and Meditation teachers Perry Mardon, Tarot Gerritsen and Asokananda as well as more importantly what I have learnt in my own selfpractice. I encourage Self Inquiry through Yoga. That is finding the path that is exclusively for you through acceptance of the past and what is now, observation of restricting patterns ( in the personality as well as in the physical body) and a willingness to make changes if necessary. To challenge what we do not agree with and to stay open to all that life has to offer.

We can practice all these things on the yoga mat and put them into practice in daily life.

Classes

My teaching style is influenced by the many different forms of yoga.... The flow of sun salutations in Astanga, breath lead movement in Viniyoga, the depth and integrity of asana alignment in Iyengar and the meditative qualities of Yin Yoga. I combine these styles with a strong focus on breath and inner awareness .  I encourage students to listen deeply to their own bodies and the quality of each movement so that ultimately a safe and personalised practice can develop from within.  In the classes I offer alternatives and adjustments in order to tailor the practice to each individual.

Weekly Yoga Classes

These are held on Monday nights in Balham and allow you to progress at your own pace in a supportive environment. There are 6 places which allow for individual focus. They include flowing sequences incorporating breath with movement as well as an emphasis on alignment.

See schedule for more information on times and course dates.

Monthly Yin/Restorative Yoga Classes

These are held in Balham on the first Wednesday of every month.

These classes focus on taking the time to drop deeper into our practice in order to find the still point within us. The breath and meditative quality of these poses enable us to internally strengthen and ease those areas that may cause us pain or restricted mobility. Props are used in these classes.

See schedule for upcoming classes and times.
One to One Yoga Classes

If you would like to experience yoga as it was traditionally taught I offer individual tuition which is tailor made for the individual body type, constitution and energy level. A course of sessions will allow you to feel the benefits of yoga quickly and build up your confidence to be able to practice at home. One to One to also advisable if you have never done yoga before and would like to join a group Yoga class or if you have specific injuries. The classes can take place in my equipped studio or the comfort of your own home.

Group/Corporate Workshops

These can be organised if you have a group of friends or work colleagues who would like to practice together as one off event or regularly.

Pregnancy Yoga

Yoga is a great way to relax the body and mind during pregnancy and prepare them for birth. Flowing movements with breathwork combined with restorative postures encourage awareness and acceptance throughout this time of change. Relaxation techniques focus on nourishment of yourself and bonding with your baby.

I currently run group and one to one pregnancy classes in South London as well as Pregnancy Yoga and Healthy Eating Retreats.

I studied with Francoise Freedman and hold a Birthlight Diploma in Perinatal Yoga. See schedule for more information on classes.
